Washing machines and tumble dryers are often provided by landlords in communal laundry areas. The machine suppliers or manufacturers should give you information on maintenance, cleaning of equipment, electrical safety, prevention of fire hazards and turning off water and electrical supplies to the machines in the event of an emergency. Maintenance should be carried out by a competent person.  You must ensure that all operators of the machines have been given training and instruction on the use and that they know to stop use of and report any faults or defects to the landlord or responsible person.
